This is beyond crap in my book. You take a functional headphone, preferably a Dj headphone for maximum PR, and dip them into crystals and think that it somehow turned in to something worth spending a fortune on. Maybe in Moscow but in the rest of the world; a hooker in a Gucci dress is still a hooker.
Nokia headphone design contest

Nokia hasn’t been to forward when it comes to manufacturing good headphones but the wind might change after their online design contestwhere they received more than 6000 designs. Actually it wasn’t that much of a design contest as it was a contest of who best could create something interesting from the different design concepts provided by the Finns. Most of it looks like something that came out of the Skullcandy catalogue with tomb stones, angel wings and exhaust pipes. Still the wining design is really slick and provides somewhat of a hope in a jungle of gimmicks.

Or actually, did it ever leave? It’s been used by Djs since day one but is now coming strong, not so much as a functional thing but more as a design detail. Personally I think it looks great!

French streetwear brand Kulte is out with a very retro inspired headphone. Rumor has it that it even has a coil cord. We say go! Kulte is a house creatives and does everything from t-shirts to festivals.

Dutch designer David Burela have made a serious mark in the world of headphones with his birch wood made beauties. Once again it’s proven that it’s a dessert out there, so much that haven’t been done! Two questions though; when will they be out and how do you adjust the size?
Limi Feu hairphones

Japanes fashion designer Limi Feu presented a line of hair covered headphones while showing her spring/summer line at the Paris fashion week. All we can do now is to hope that these creations will make to the streets.
Beats by Dre

The well over priced but ever so great Beats by Dre is getting a younger sibling. Basically they’ve taken the design and shrunk it to about 60% of papa Dre and took the price down to about 200 USD. Press release doesn’t say whether it will have active noise canceling or not but the iPhone microphone is still there. The Monster Cable company are putting in a lot of energy and love into headphones and these latest creations goes by the name Beats Solo.

NIXON HEADPHONES SPRING/SUMMER 2010

We spotted these smooth looking prototypes at the Berlin fashion week. From the looks of it they will continue to have a volume control on the earcap and also the same cable system used on their previous metal models. The smaller model looks very generic but there could be some nice twists to it once it leaves the prototype age. That both of these models will hit the shelves in time for christmas is more than likely.
